On May 15, the National Serbian Ensemble Kolo marked its 62nd birthday with a ceremonial concert called Kolo to Naša Srbija. The Day of Kolo Ensemble was established as a significant date when the Government of People's Republic of Serbia founded the Ensemble of Folk Dances and Songs of Serbia in 1948. This spring was an occasion to celebrate another anniversary – ten years of Naša Srbija.
The Kolo Ensemble has given a wonderful gift to our organization – a concert dedicated to the children in our care and to the organization’s benefactors. The festivity was enhanced by the
attendance of His Holiness Serbian Patriarch Irinej who blessed the gathered children of Naša Srbija.
They were joined by Vicar Bishop of Jegar Porfirije, Tatjana Tadić, the patron of many actions and projects of Naša Srbija, as well as the creators of the organization – the Mayor of Belgrade Dragan Djilas and Mladjan Djordjević, one of the founders. The event was also attended by Slobodan Vučićević also one of the founders of the organization and the head of its longtime general sponsors: Grand kafa and Soko Štark, Draginja Djurić, the president of the Executive Board of Banca Intesa, the current general sponsor of the work of Naša Srbija, Željko Drašković, the president of the Board of Directors of Naša Srbija and Mira Radojević, our longtime associate from London.
The event gathered numerous benefactors and friends, some of which have been helping our children since the organization’s inception, the fans of the Ensemble Kolo, and guests from diplomatic corps. Radojica Kuzmanović, the director of the Ensamble Kolo and Sanja Pajević Bundalo, the director of Naša Srbija greeted the guests. A very special moment was the entrance of our children, some of which are already successful students.
The special guests of the evening were the members of the children’s folk dance ensemble Kopaonik from Leposavić in Kosovo and Metohia, whose performance caused overall delight of the audience. Afterwards Ensemble Kolo performed the program of folk songs and dances, giving a clear and unique evidence of the wealth of traditional creation in all its beauty and grandeur of sound and colour.
