School of Ethnology and Crafts
The school of ethnology and crafts has become a very popular workshop for those interested in learning more about Serbian culture and tradition, and in learning the crafts of their ancestors. This workshop was
sponsored by the Belgrade municipality of Stari Grad. All guests of the School of Friendship received gifts made at the crafts
workshop.
School of Traditional Song
This school introduced the students to the intonation and meaning of traditional songs from all segments of Serbian culture. While learning many traditional songs and studying their history, the group adopted a song from Cernica (kosovo and Metohia) as their
own and presented it formally during the Grand Opening and at several award ceremonies occurring during the School of Friendship.
School of Traditional Dance
The children, mostly from Kosovo and Metohia, participated in learning the technical and traditional aspects of Serbian dances from the region. This school instilled a sense of respect for the tradition
and cultural heritage in children. Often, the schools of traditional song and dance would come together to learn dances that are traditionally performed to song, such as Igrale Se Delije...
Dance School “Top Dance”
The children were instructed in the art of modern dances ranging from Mambo to Samba, or sometimes, from the Waltz to the
Macarena. All had lots of fun.
Serbian Language School
This school was responsible for teaching the children of Serb Diaspora the foundations of the Serbian Language, starting with Sveti Sava and Vuk Karadžić, and then moving on to learning various forms of prose and essential grammar. Students also had
a chance to display their acquired knowledge during writing sessions, which also allowed them to express themselves on an emotional level.
English Language School
Thanks to the New Vision School from Novi Sad, this year's English language workshop featured additions to the program including the Language Portfolio – creating language identity, History of the USA – in preparation for US Ambassador's visit, Hands of Friendship – part of the multi-ethnic seminar Days of Friendship and finally Thumbprint Comics – a chance for the students to express themselves using the unique medium of comic books.
Fine Arts School
Fine arts school took its students through a rigorous education in traditional and non-traditional painting techniques. The major themes were: the beauty of nature and cultural and folk traditions.
Students also had a chance to paint Grand Kafa coffee cups with the Mayor of Belgrade Nenad Bogdanović, vice president of “Naša Srbija” Dragan Djilas and Director of Grand Kafa Slobodan Vučićević.
Drama School
With the help of the Belgrade theatre company “Boško Buha”, young participants of the drama school encountered all from rigors of
acting preparation right down to the performance itself. For many of the children, these might be the first steps towards a possible career in acting.
School of Nature and Ecology
The students were taken on extensive nature walks in order to enjoy the natural wonders of Tara Mountain, while learning the processes
within this eco-system and some basic homeopathic techniques.
Young scouts school
The instructors guided participants through some basic training for survival in the wild. From pitching tents to foraging for food and
supplies, trainees displayed their new skills to the guests of the School of Friendship.
Journalism School
This school taught the students not only the basics of Journalism, but how to integrate this new found knowledge to the mediums of radio and television. First hand experience was a key element to the
program which showcased its work with the School of Friendship's radio and television programs, run entirely by the children. Featured interviews with eminent guests were impressive to all who participated.
“Naša Srbija” Radio
The participants learned the technical aspects of running a digital sound operation for the production of professional sound bytes and jingles, as well as the technical aspects of emitting a professional
radio program. Radio “Naša Srbija” provided the hands on experience to fine tune their new skills.
School of Computing
This school was run with the help and cooperation of Fujitsu Siemens Computers and CPU. For those who had little or no contact with computers, a basic understanding of the processes was gained
through training exercises and hands on tutoring; while, more advanced students concentrated on their web creation skills.
School of History and Geography
This school led participants on a cultural/historical journey through the landscape of Serbia. The major theme was the history of Serbian
Monasteries.
A significant segment of the School of Friendship was devoted to promoting excellence in the technical and psychological aspects of sport and sportsmanship, which all culminated in the final tournament.
